The Problem With iPhone’s “SDK”

Monday, July 9, 2007

Having just published my first iPhone application this morning, I need to share with you my biggest gripe with the Safari as the platform premise. Here are the steps to launching PocketTweets

  1. Click the Home button
  2. Click Safari
  3. Click the bookmarks button or click in the URL bar to type the address manually
  4. Scroll through bookmarks to find my application
  5. Click on the application’s bookmark to load it.

There’s no reason why I shouldn’t be able to put my application on the Home screen or, at a minimum, buried under an Applications button. Apple is essentially telling us to build watered down widgets, but they’re treating them like second class citizens — glorified bookmarks if you will.
